What happened — the latest incident??

A woman of Nepali origin — who identified herself as “Kajal” — was arrested at the immigration counter while trying to board a flight from Mumbai to Muscat (Oman) using what she produced as an “Indian passport.”

Her passport claimed her place of birth as “Nohra, Himachal Pradesh.”

However, immigration officers became suspicious because her facial features “appeared distinctly Nepali.” On further verification and questioning, she confessed that she was not Indian. Her real name is reportedly Kajal Lama, and she is from Parsa district in Nepal.

According to police, to obtain the fake documents she submitted forged identity proofs: Aadhaar card, PAN card, a bonafide certificate with a fake Himachal address — and with those she secured the Indian passport from the passport office in Shimla.

She has now been booked by the authorities — under charges including misleading passport authorities, forging documents, and attempting illegal travel.

🔎 What’s being alleged / why she was caught?

The arrest resulted from routine immigration checks at the airport. The immigration officer reportedly found discrepancies — specifically the person’s appearance did not match the expected profile for an Indian passport holder claiming Himachal birthplace.

Upon deeper verification — including cross-checking paperwork and questioning — she admitted to being a Nepali national using a forged passport.

The police found that she had used forged identity documents (address proof, identity proof, etc.) to obtain genuine-looking identity proofs, which were in turn used to secure the passport — a multi-layered fraud involving fake documents.

She was booked under relevant laws related to forgery and falsification of identity and travelling with forged documents.

The case underscores continuing concerns around passport fraud, document forgery, and the possibility of illegal migration or trafficking networks exploiting loopholes. Analysts and authorities treat such incidents as serious security risks.
