•Health concerns & rumours of death
There have been widespread rumours — including on social media — claiming that Imran Khan may have died or his health has severely deteriorated while in prison.
His younger son Kasim Khan has publicly demanded “proof of life,” alleging that his father is being kept in solitary confinement in a “death-cell” and denied all contact.
According to him: “no phone calls, no meetings, no proof of life.”
• Official denials and jail administration’s statements
The prison authorities at Adiala Jail (in Rawalpindi) have denied claims about a transfer or deteriorating health, asserting that Imran Khan is fine.
According to them, he continues to receive regular medical supervision, diet, exercise and other privileges — including reportedly meals “better than in five-star hotels.”
• Political uproar, protests & demands for transparency
His party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded immediate access to him for family and lawyers, saying repeated refusals to allow meetings are unacceptable.
Protests and sit-ins have been reported outside the jail, with supporters and some political leaders raising slogans, demanding clarity and calling the lack of access “illegal.”
• What Imran Khan himself recently said (from jail)?
In a message sent earlier this month, Khan accused the country’s military-led power structure of undermining the constitution and promoted what he called “Asim Law” instead of rule of law — referring to Asim Munir, the army-chief accused by Khan of holding unrestricted power.
He alleged that his wife Bushra Bibi and many members of PTI were being subjected to “cruel oppression,” courts were being manipulated, and his detention and trials are politically motivated.
Background & Why This Matters:
Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023, after being ousted as Prime Minister in 2022.
He is serving a 14-year sentence under corruption cases.
His detention and the ongoing controversy over his treatment — especially alleged isolation and lack of transparency — have sparked national and international concern.
