Early Life & Background:
Manoj Dey was born as Manoj Kumar Modak on 12 July 1997 (some sources say 1996) in a small village in Dhanbad (Jharia), Jharkhand, India. He came from a poor family. His father, Bhikhu Modak, used to run a bicycle-repair shop — their daily earnings were limited (reports mention around ₹200–250 per day). Growing up, Manoj faced financial difficulties: simple living conditions, and the family lived in a modest/cottage-type dwelling. Despite hardships, he studied in a government school, and later after 10th grade he pursued an ITI diploma in “electrician trade.”
However, due to financial constraints and limited opportunities, he began working odd jobs: giving tuition (private classes) and working at a cyber-café — early exposure to computers and the internet came from there.
So, Manoj’s roots were humble — rural town, modest school, limited resources, and early responsibility to support family.
🚀 Struggles & Early Attempts:
Manoj first tried to earn by working — but jobs didn’t offer enough security or growth. Eventually, he decided to explore the internet and YouTube. He began on YouTube with earlier channels (some say a channel called “Technical Manoj” and others different small-format videos), but those either failed to get traction or were disabled before monetization.
Money was tight: reportedly he borrowed money from friends for mobile recharge just to make videos, and he sometimes had to shoot from staircase or small rented place because he didn’t own a proper house yet.
Thus, his start was far from glamorous — many rejections, failures, and harsh reality of poverty.
🎥 YouTube Journey — From Small Town to Stardom :
In late 2016 (around 24 November 2016) Manoj started a new YouTube channel under the name “Manoj Dey”. That became his main breakthrough platform.
He focused on content like: “how to earn money online”, “YouTube tips and monetization strategies”, tech reviews, app reviews/unboxing, motivational videos, and guidance for others wanting to grow on YouTube.
Consistency, relatable background, and honest storytelling helped him connect especially with youth from smaller towns or modest backgrounds — many aspiring creators found his journey inspiring.
Over time he expanded: besides his main channel, he started a vlogging channel Manoj Dey Vlogs, and even a podcast-style channel Manoj Dey Podcast.
As of recent years (2025), his main channel reportedly crosses around 7 million subscribers, with huge viewership and influence.
🏆 Rise in Success — What Changed:
Because of his rise:
His income reportedly jumped from earning small amounts to monthly lakhs (Indian rupees) — helping him and his family leave their previous poverty-bound life.
Reports mention that with YouTube income he was able to buy a car — even a “luxury” vehicle (some say a Mercedes-Benz GLC 300), a house, and improve family’s living standards substantially.
He also gained recognition as one of the prominent “digital-success stories” from small-town India — inspiring many youths by showing that with passion, consistency and hard work, one can transform circumstances.
❤️ Personal Life:
Manoj Dey got married in 2023 to Jyoti Shree Mahato — who is also a YouTuber / social-media influencer. According to some sources, they also have a child.
He continues to live in Dhanbad (Jharkhand) — though his lifestyle changed drastically compared to his childhood days.
💡 What Makes His Story Important — Why People Look Up to Him :
Manoj’s journey reflects “from nothing to something” — belying the notion that only big-city people or privileged kids can make it big. His rural / small-town background resonates with many across India.
His content focuses not only on tech or entertainment — but on realistic strategies, motivation, hustling with limited resources, showing how to leverage internet platforms honestly. This gives hope and actionable guidance to many youngsters.
He himself remains relatively “grounded” (as per many articles): he shares his struggles, maintains authenticity, and does not shy away from revealing his humble beginnings — that makes his success more relatable and inspiring.
